In 1996 the Mason County Housing Authority, Havana, Illinois, received a grant for the re-construction of 50 units at 201 E Hurst, Havana Illinois. We began receiving Comprehensive Grant moneys for modernization. And now, as we head into the new millennium, we will continue to modernize our units to be more competitive in today's market place. Even with a soaring economy, low-income families are having a tougher time finding affordable housing because of rising rents and the loss of public housing units. Mason County Housing Authority is preparing for the anticipated occupancy problems of the future with our modernization and partnership with local agencies to establish resident councils and self-sufficiency.
