The Mason County Housing Authority, Havana, Illinois, was established in 1951. The development is located at 201 E Hurst Ave. Havana Illinois 62644. Ground was broken in1951. Mason County Housing Authority consists of 50 units. There are 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom apartments for families and elderly. In 1996 the Mason County Housing Authority, Havana, Illinois, received a grant for the re-construction of 50 units at 201 E Hurst, Havana Illinois. We began receiving Comprehensive Grant moneys for modernization. And now, as we head into the new millennium, we will continue to modernize our units to be more competitive in today's market place. Even with a soaring economy, low-income families are having a tougher time finding affordable housing because of rising rents and the loss of public housing units. Mason County Housing Authority is preparing for the anticipated occupancy problems of the future with our modernization and partnership with local agencies to establish resident councils and self-sufficiency. In 2003 Prairieland Council Inc., a non-for profit organization was founded. With the help of USDA Rural Development program, we were able to purchase four apartment complexes, 1 in Bushnell, IL, 1 in Ipava, IL, 1 in Mason City, IL, and 1 in Vermont, IL and the Mason County Housing Authority, Prairieland Council Inc. manages a fifth apartment complex in Avon, IL.
